Democratic candidate for Lt. Governor brought her campaign to Glenn, Tehama, Shasta, and Siskiyou counties

Mt. Shasta, CA - Eleni Kounalakis, Democratic candidate for Lt. Governor, continued the first leg of "Eleni's Summer Road Trip" in Glenn, Tehama, Shasta, and Siskiyou counties on Thursday. Kounalakis will be on the road for the next two days visiting communities in northeast California, including Modoc, Lassen, Plumas, Sierra, and Nevada counties.

She was joined by community leaders for breakfast at I-5 Cafe and Creamery in Orland, followed by similar meetings in Red Bluff and Redding. In addition, Kounalakis received a briefing on rural health care issues at Mercy Medical Center in Mt. Shasta.

"The impact of potential cuts to MediCal from the repeal of the Affordable Care Act could be devastating to families in rural California," said Kounalakis. "Hospitals like Mercy Medical Center and the families who use rural health care facilities need to be listened to when it comes to understanding the way forward on health care."

Kounalakis will continue her tour of California throughout the summer, including stops in the Central Valley, Central Coast, the foothills, and eastern Sierras.

Kounalakis is a business woman and diplomat. She was appointed by President Barack Obama as Ambassador to Hungary in 2010. She is a life-long Democrat and five-time delegate to the Democratic National Convention and worked as an advocate for early childhood education as a member of California's First 5 Commission, and the Blue Ribbon Commission on Autism.

She was appointed by Gov. Jerry Brown to lead the California International Trade and Investment Advisory Council and served as a member of the San Francisco Port Commission. Prior to serving our country in the diplomatic corps, she was president of AKT Development Corporation in Sacramento, where she grew up. She is a graduate of the UC Berkeley Haas School of Business and Dartmouth College. She and her husband, Markos, live in San Francisco where they are raising their two sons.

She has received endorsements from U.S. Senator Kamala Harris, San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee, Sacramento Mayor Darrell Steinberg, Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf, Representatives Anna Eshoo, Doris Matsui, and Mike Thompson, former State Senator Mark Leno, and Sacramento Assemblymember Kevin McCarty, among others.
