November 6, 2017 - Board of Equalization Member Fiona Ma Endorses Eleni Kounalakis for Lieutenant Governor

 

Board member Ma joins a growing roster of prominent Californians supporting Kounalakis’ bid for Lt. Governor

San Francisco – Today, California Board of Equalization member and former Speaker Pro Tempore of the Assembly Fiona Ma formally endorsed Eleni Kounalakis for Lieutenant Governor. In her statement, Ma praised Eleni’s commitment to achieving economic security for all Californians.

“California needs leaders like Eleni Kounalakis” said Ma. “Without a doubt, I know that she has the political courage to stand up to corporate interests to fight for a stronger future for everyone - a future that gives more working and middle-class families greater economic security and multiple paths to succeed.”

“I'm deeply grateful to have Fiona Ma's support and friendship in this race to be Califor-nia's next Lt. Governor,” said Kounalakis. “She knows that I have what it takes to fight for all Californians, to stand up to Wall Street interests, and to ensure our economy strengthens the middle-class. Kounalakis comes armed with a growing list of endorsements from prominent Democratic elected officials, like U.S. Senator Kamala Harris, San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee, Sacramen-to Mayor Darrell Steinberg, Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf, Stockton Mayor Michael Tubbs, Representatives Anna Eshoo, Doris Matsui, and Mike Thompson, former State Senator Mark Leno, and Sacramento Assemblymember Kevin McCarty.

Kounalakis is a business woman and diplomat. She was appointed by President Barack Obama as Ambassador to Hungary in 2010. She is a life-long Democrat and five-time del-egate to the Democratic National Convention and worked as an advocate for early child-hood education as a member of California's First 5 Commission, and the Blue Ribbon Commission on Autism.

She was appointed by Gov. Jerry Brown to lead the California International Trade and In-vestment Advisory Council and served as a member of the San Francisco Port Commis-sion. Prior to serving our country in the diplomatic corps, she was president of AKT De-velopment Corporation in Sacramento, where she grew up. She is a graduate of the UC Berkeley Haas School of Business and Dartmouth College. She and her husband, Markos, live in San Francisco where they are raising their two teenage sons.
